This week has been spent with "fortification"! The anticipation of the first batch of beans was shared with deer in the neighborhood. Never have they ventured in my small garden by the house but this year the beans were much too enticing. Thankfully they only ate 1/2 of the golden rush beans (they prefer yellow wax beans to the green provider). Since they only like the tops not all is lost.
As a result, this week we have beans, kale, Swiss chard, summer squash, broccoli, spinach and some snow peas. We also have a variety of herbs, our popular jams and jellies and local maple syrup. In addition, the response to our baked goods has been fantastic. We have homemade English Muffin Bread and 100% whole wheat bread along with our Early Bird muffins and coffee cake made with our signature jams. Every Saturday we have a variety of quiche made with our organic produce and unpasteurized milk products from Freedom Hill Farm.
